Bill of Lading Automation into SAP

A Bill of Lading is only finished when it has become a posted transaction. TMW Cloud receives terminal documents and Bills of Lading, validates them, transforms them into ERP structures, and posts them into SAP — with no custom ABAP in your core.

The gap between the rack and the ledger

The Bill of Lading is the document that says what actually left the terminal. Everything downstream depends on it — inventory, billing, excise reporting, the customer's own receipt records. And in a lot of operations, it crosses the gap between the terminal and the ERP by hand.

That gap is where the problems live. Documents arrive in batches and sit until someone processes them. Data gets rekeyed, and rekeying introduces errors at a predictable rate. Bad records reach SAP and have to be reversed. Nobody can say with confidence what has posted and what has not, so month-end becomes an exercise in finding the difference.

The usual fix — custom ABAP inside the SAP core to handle terminal-specific logic — solves the immediate problem and creates a longer one. Custom core code is expensive to build, expensive to maintain, and it is exactly what makes SAP upgrades painful.

How TMW Cloud processes a Bill of Lading

TMW Cloud does the validation and transformation work outside the SAP core, then posts finished transactions in.

  1. Receive

TMW Cloud receives Bills of Lading and terminal documents from the terminal — including movements captured automatically by TLOAD.

  2. Validate

Data is checked before anything reaches SAP, so incomplete or inconsistent records are caught at the boundary rather than posted and reversed.

  3. Transform

Validated terminal activity is mapped into the transaction structures SAP expects, with no ABAP development required in the core.

  4. Post to SAP

Transactions post directly into SAP as sales orders, goods movements, and purchase orders.

What terminal activity becomes in SAP

Sales orders

Outbound movements become the sales documents that drive customer billing.

Goods movements

Product leaving or entering storage is reflected in inventory as it happens, not at reconciliation.

Purchase orders

Inbound and procurement-side activity posted in the same validated flow.

SAP Clean Core

Integration logic lives outside the core, so the core stays standard and upgrades stay straightforward.

Runs on SAP BTP

TMW Cloud runs on SAP Business Technology Platform or other cloud containers.

Browser and mobile access

Reachable from a browser or a mobile app, so terminal documents are not tied to one workstation.

Frequently asked questions

What is Bill of Lading processing?

Bill of Lading processing is the work of turning the BOL issued at a terminal into a posted transaction in the ERP. It covers receiving the document, checking the data is complete and correct, mapping it to the right transaction type, and posting it so the movement is reflected in inventory and billing.

Can Bill of Lading data be posted into SAP without custom ABAP?

Yes. TMW Cloud validates and transforms terminal documents outside the SAP core and posts the resulting transactions in, so no custom ABAP development is required in the core system. This supports an SAP Clean Core approach and keeps upgrades straightforward.

What SAP transactions does terminal activity become?

Validated terminal activity is transformed into sales orders, goods movements, and purchase orders in SAP.

Do we need TLOAD to use TMW Cloud?

TMW Cloud receives Bills of Lading and terminal documents, and TLOAD is the terminal automation platform that generates them automatically at the rack. The two are designed to work together as one flow from loading operation to posted SAP transaction.
